Lesson 1 Bacteria

  • Bacteria are organisms that are made up of a single cell
  • You can find bacteria everywhere
  • Bacteria can cause disease to, animals, plants or humans
  • A bacterial cell is made up of a  capsule, cell wall, plasma membrane, cytoplasm, DNA, ribosomes, flagellum, pilli
  • Some bacteria are harmful, and some are beneficial for our body
  • Bacteria that cause disease are called pathogenic.
  • Examples of beneficial bacteria: our gut has bacteria that helps our body to work properly.
  • Example of diseases caused by bacteria: cholera, diptheria, dysentery, bubonic plague, pneumonia, tuberculosis, typhoid
  • Antibiotics are used to treat diseases caused by bacteria. Increased or wrong use of antibiotics can make the bacteria resistant and harder to treat them.
