Lesson 1 What is a vaccine

  • Vaccine – made of small portions of weakened or dead organism that can cause illness. Vaccines make our body ready for a quick response to a disease or even full protection against a disease
  • Aim: Vaccines aim to create a specific protection towards  a specific disease causing microorganism without the danger of contracting the disease
  • Vaccination leads to immunization.
  • Different types of vaccines can be made to fight the same disease.

IMPORTANT

  • Unvaccinated people are protected as well because most of the people are vaccinated in the population-reduction of spreading the disease
  • As a disease disappears, the importance of vaccination is not emphasized to the public so less people are vaccinated and this can increase the spread of the disease
  • Herd immunity will FALL in case of a decrease in the numbers of vaccination.
