Lesson 1 What is immunization

Immunity: A disease’s protection. When you are protected you can not get sick with the disease.

Immunization: The process where you get protection against a specific disease through either vaccination or getting sick with the disease.

You can get immunization…

• naturally –getting sick   vs  artificially-getting vaccinated

Two types of immunization

• Active immunization– Your immune system starts to produce antibodies to protect you form the disease, virus or bacteria. Active immunization can be artificial or natural.
• Passive immunization– it will happen at the same time but will not protect you for a very long time. An example is breastfeeding.
