Lesson 5 Reliable Health Information

How to spot reliable information

  • You must check who provides the information
  • Government websites, condition-specific websites, support organization websites and medical journals are considered as reliable
  • Facebook, chatrooms, and online forums are not considered as reliable

HOWEVER: For confirmation or for any suspicion consult the appropriate medical professional

You can ask your doctor:

    • Can you give me good resources to look up information on the web?
    • Which kinds of websites provide the most reliable information?
    • Are there any websites I should avoid?
    • Should I call if I read something on a reliable health-related website that could affect me?
